About the Trail
Dingalan is the southernmost coastal municipality of Aurora Province, Philippines, often called the "Batanes of the East" Pre-Colonial & Early Settlers • Dumagat Indigenous Peoples: The area was originally inhabited by the Dumagat tribes who lived along the rivers, forests, and coast. • Etymology: The name comes from the Dumagat phrase "by the River of Galan" (referring to the local rivers), or from a folklore about two Dumagat brothers named Ding and Allan who lost each other while hunting. • Lowland Migration: In the early 1900s, settlers from Quezon, Nueva Ecija, and Ilocos arrived for farming. Migration grew in the 1930s when Don Felipe Buencamino launched logging and sawmill operations, bringing Tagalog, Ilocano, Kapampangan, and Bicolano families.
